Areas of Expertise
As a result of processes of globalisation, economic forces are having greater and more rapid impacts on local economies, both for good and bad than ever before. Some local economies are becoming increasingly specialised nodes in global, rather than national economic flows. In parallel, other local areas are become increasingly marginalised and impoverished. As a result, there is a need for more tailored local strategies is becoming increasingly necessary. Kaiser works closely with regional and local governments in strategy development, project planning, and implementation.

Our key areas of focus include:

Local Economic Development (LED)

Kaiser assists stakeholders to identify opportunities for "bottom-up" development, and to put in place strategies to take full advantage of these opportunities. Our work includes research, strategy and policy planning, sector and cluster development, project planning, project management, monitoring and evaluation.

Special Economic Zones and Industrial Parks

Free trade zones and other special economic zones have provided regions with powerful, if sometimes controversial, vehicles to attract investment, particularly from multinationals. As a result, such spatial developments, along with specialised industrial parks, have become important elements of local and regional economic development strategies that need to be managed effectively to generate sustainable investments. Kaiser has extensive global experience in supporting the development of special economic zones, including strategic planning, concept development, feasibility, and project implementation management.
