Review of South African Technology Centre and Wider Trade Support Measures
Assessment of the past performance and future potential of the South African Technology Centre (SATC) in Melbourne as well as the available options for partnership approaches to trade support models. Involved in-depth interviews with existing and potential users (in South Africa and Australia) and other key stakeholders to determine priority constraints and needs of companies, a financial review and global benchmarking of other international trade support practices. The study developed strategic recommendations for the refocusing of the service offerings, refining the financing structure and relocation of facilities.

Mozambique Horticulture Export Market Assessment
Assessment of market opportunities for Mozambique horticulture producers in the South African market and local Mozambique tourism and hospitality markets. The analysis included price suitability of markets based on production costs and recommendations in relation to product-market matching, e.g. appropriate channels to markets, preferred varieties, quality and labelling requirements.

Development of an export-led sector development strategy for the Western Cape Crafts Sector. This project included profiling the Western Cape crafts sector, and assessing current interventions. Resulted in a series of recommendations on products and markets as well as recommendations on the most appropriate role for provincial government in developing the sector.

Development of an investment strategy for the South African ICT and Electronics sector. Kaiser assessed and segmented domestic export opportunities, looking at African regional markets as well as key markets in Europe, Asia, and North America. Based on market opportunities and a SWOT analysis of South African sector capabilities, a framework was developed for facilitating investment in the sector.

Analysis of the relative advantage of all sectors in the province compared to other investment locations in the Southern African region. Included assessment of factor costs as well as fit with global industry structure and value chain dynamics. Resulted in recommended areas of focus to improve provincial competitiveness.

Punjab Agro-Processing Feasibility and Investment Facilitation
Technical and financial feasibility assessment of agro-processing plants to develop an internationally competitive processing industry, to support the diversification of primary agriculture in the state of Punjab, and help move the agricultural sector into higher value-added segments. The study covered the processing of tomatoes and chilli pastes, vegetable processing, wheat and distillation of grain-based alcohol. Involved detailed market research into global demand trends, supply chains and market opportunities to establish the feasibility of the ventures. Kaiser was then responsible for identifying shortlists of potential investors and securing investments.

Proudly South African Business Planning and implementation
Development of a strategy and implementation plan for the "Proudly South African" national branding campaign. As a declaration of the 1998 Presidential Job Summit, the "Buy South Africa" campaign was created to stimulate economic growth and job creation through increased demand for South African goods and services that meet certain criteria related to: local content, quality, labour standards and environmental standards. Kaiser developed a business plan, institutional establishment workplan and an overall strategy for the establishment and operation of the renamed "Proudly South African" campaign. Following the development of the business plan, Kaiser incubated the organisation's first six months.

Developing a National Brand for Botswana
Development of a comprehensive brand strategy and implementation plan for Botswana. The brand relates to exports, investment, tourism, foreign relations and local citizen identity. This project involved a detailed situational analysis, the development of brand options and the testing of a preferred brand option with key audiences, including businesses, citizens and other organisations based in Botswana. The development process included involvement by stakeholders across government, industry and civil society.
